More than half of us Brits feel unappreciated at work.

Excellect Employee Benefits

58% of British workers feel that they are not being thanked enough in the workplace. With 41% of employers admitting that staff are not appreciated enough. Research from Monster.co.uk who surveyed 2,000 employees and 500 employers also found that 22% of employees reported finding their employer was ungrateful for the work they did.

Corinne Sweet, organisational behaviour psychologist Corinne Sweet says;

"As Brits we can sometimes feel embarrassed about saying ‘well done’, or giving positive feedback. This is a clear call for bosses to be more engaged with their employees and let them know when they’ve done a good job.”

Employees are a company’s greatest asset. With more than half feeling unappreciated at work, is it time employees were recognised for the work they do.

Since 1995 the United States have been celebrating the first Friday in March as Employee Appreciation Day. This day was created in order to focus employer’s attention on to employee recognition.

There are some great ways to show your employees some appreciation throughout the year;

  • Say 'thank you'

  • Be flexible (in terms of working)

  • Have team effort celebrations

  • Provide an employee benefits package including things like, gym sessions, cinema tickets, fitness classes, health food incentives such fruit baskets, and shopping vouchers.

So lets not let's the Americans have all the fun- let's make every day an employee appreciation day.
