Employee Benefits can save lives…

Unfortunately most of us at some point in our lives will experience cancer - either by a personal diagnosis or by knowing someone who is currently fighting, or has beaten cancer. It is estimated that there are over 2.5 million people in the UK today who have a current cancer diagnosis - it is a massive problem. On a positive note, various screenings and treatments have surfaced over the years that are proven to be increasingly effective in the treatment of cancer. However, many of these either involve invasive surgery or costly long term medical care (such as chemotherapy) – Some of these methods cause patients to become very ill for significant periods of time, resulting in long-term work absences during treatment and recovery. Cancer sufferers could however still receive a regular income (generally up to 75% of their salaries) if their employers offer Group Income Protection. Income Protection pays a regular monthly benefit if an employee is unable to work due to long term illness or injury. A regular benefit is paid until the employee is well enough to return to work or the payment term of the policy is reached. Recent research by a leading cancer charity shows that if government plans go ahead to cut Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) Cancer patients could be at risk at losing their homes. Income Protection could be a way for employees suffering with long term illness to continue to pay their overheads and avoid being forced into poverty when their need is greatest. The importance of high level Cancer Care is also recognised by all major UK Private Medical Insurers, most schemes now offer cancer care as a core benefit; providing access, amongst other things, to eligible drugs and treatments that often aren’t available on the NHS. There are often upgrades to the Cancer Cover enabling the removal of financial or time limits applied to the treatment, which effectively means that as long as the treatment is deemed to be life improving or prolonging funding for treatment will never run out. Group Income Protection and Private Medical Insurance policies work well independently or in tandem and can promote trust and reliability in your business, whilst helping to attract and retain your top talent. Offering employees a good range of benefits shows your team that you care about their health and wellbeing. In addition, Private Medical Insurance and Income Protection with their specialised services are designed to help your employees get back to work sooner, reducing the disruption to your business.
